Amid doctors’ strikes, The South Korean Ministry of Health and Welfare has announced a new project that will harness artificial intelligence to develop a clinical decision support system for emergency departments.

They are investing 22.8 billion won ($16.7 million) over the next five years into the project to meet the following goals:

  • Set up ER database

  • Develop technology to optimize treatment processes in the emergency room

  • Develop AI model to experience ER

  • Development of CDSS to predict conditions such as cardiac arrest, cardiovascular disease, and sepsis

The The project has the participation of 5 major hospitals, including Samsung Medical Center, Seoul Asan Medical Center, Korea University Medical Center, Gangnam Severance Hospital and Hanyang University Hospital.

The Korea National Emergency Medical Center will also join the project to provide data and AI demonstration support, while MOHW’s Korea Health Industry Promotion Agency will also provide support through management , evaluate and advise on tasks.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?
