Employment report: Healthcare employment trends in 4 charts
With employment rates continuously increasing, the job outlook in the healthcare sector is brighter than in some other industries. However, some areas of the industry continue to be plagued by staff shortages and trouble with recruitment.
Since the pandemic hit, most healthcare sectors have experienced average annual hiring growth, outpacing small monthly fluctuations and surpassing pre-pandemic levels.
Between 2020 and 2022, the industry has created more than 450,000 jobs, according to estimates based on data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
However, hiring levels in nursing homes and residential care facilities are still extremely short compared to pre-pandemic levels. The industry has continued to struggle with recruiting and retaining enough staff to effectively care for patients.
Some hospitals have established their own internal staffing agencies and ramped up recruitment efforts to fill vacancies.
