Iron Horse Beverly Park soars to 15 Victory in 2022

During the year 2022, Beverly Park face the starter no less than 30 times. And in 15 of those races, the big bay, the return of the iron horses to the heyday of motorsport, found its winner’s circle, making it the first horse since Rapid Redux is undefeated (19 straight wins in 2011) to win more than 13 races in a season.

Trainer Norman “Lynn” Cash said: “His forelegs were as cold and stiff as any pony.

The coach was berated with criticism last winter when his 6-year-old son Munnings competed in eight races over a two-month period.

While Cash, 58, admits he’s still a fledgling industry student, only earning his coaching degree two years ago after decades of running the family shingle business, he understands My horse is better than anyone else. A frequent Beverly Park travel partner during their 16 months together, regularly driving the van himself to various racetracks around the country, just him and “Beverly”.

Cash said: “I hit him twice in the last year and a half since I had him. “Sometimes we’ll put him in the next race and sometimes we’ll even put him in. But he’s a hard-working horse. Whether it’s the race or the track in the morning, he wants to go out there and do it.When I’m sometimes watching practice from across the track, I can always tell that it’s him from afar walking out for a fun bounce he sometimes turns his head to and from the track. He walks with a springy stride.”

As the bleak winter turns to spring, Beverly Park follows a more steady pattern of 19 days of rest between races, which is what Cash believes is best for his horse.

“I also have more of a feel for the business in general,” Cash said. “I know for sure I’ve done a lot of ‘no’. next you’re the beaten, beaten six races, and you have to walk out of there after the race. If you can’t get the low, you can’t get the high.”

“I said to my wife, ‘That horse (You’ll have another one) was bought for only $35,000. We should also buy a racehorse – how much fun would that be?’ And we did. And then we would raise horses when we had the money we wanted with the roofing business. But when I was owning horses, I realized that I love the sport. and I love animals. That really came and grabbed me.”

And in 2021, Cash passed the flame of his longstanding shingle business to his two sons and bet on a dream.

The operation started with a few horses and gradually grew to almost 50 by December 2022, all operating under the name Cash Built Wright Stables. Cash now oversees chains in both Laurel Park and out of the Thoroughbred Center in Lexington, Ky.

“We jumped in with a few[horses]and it started to work,” Cash said. “Though things don’t always go well at first. Sometimes (Lola will) look at the checkbook and say, ‘Honey, what’s going on? And I’ll say, ‘The money’s there, no. not all in cash, these are good claims we made.’ I’m just going back to the lot theory. You have to put the car on the lot if you want to sell the car. You have to have the car in a lot.”

Although primarily a claim warehouse, Cash has enjoyed considerable success turning tag-running horses into stake winners. Trainer first taste of classified stake glory with Double crowns a gelding he won for $40,000 last June at Churchill Downs. In a shocking 42-1 defeat, Double Crown won a lot Baby Yoda to score a 1 3/4 long goal in the Kelso Handicap (G2) on October 29 at Aqueduct.

However, it was Beverly Park who really brought Cash’s name to the fore.

“This horse gets a lot of squid,” Cash said. “Everywhere I go, people ask me about him.

“Really 98% of it’s just a wonderful animal and 2% is me. I just happened to grab the tail of its shirt as it passed by.”

There wasn’t much Cash didn’t like when he spotted Beverly Park for $12,500 at Belterra on August 5, 2021. By a perennial top-ranking stud in Munnings, the Beverly Park dam, mare Langfuhr Madeira Park, is a 3rd place winner in Canada and a earner of over $318,000. Coming from a wealthy family of black type, with graded bet winners Manny Wah and Mixed Citizens and Millionaires look at Lee In her immediate family, Madeira Park produced Hartel gelding that was deposited.

Beverly Park won the third attempt after two attempts with the first special weights company, narrowly winning a $150,000 first-person rally at Keeneland in the fall. his 2-year-old for PTK Stable. However, his form faltered after that effort, and he ended up getting a $5,000 discount in July of the year he was 4 years old after a nine-month layoff.

He demolished the field 15 1/2 lengths that day and started his race as the most formidable starting extra horse in the country.

Beginner grants can apply under a variety of conditions, but common eligibility is for “horses starting with an asking price of $5,000 in the last two years” . This particular condition is part of what makes Beverly Park stand out since joining Cash’s barn.

Cash said: “Back then I didn’t know the strength of a boot horse (allowance). “I just thought, ‘Well, I can get three or four wins with this horse.’ But this guy paid himself maybe 40 times as much. We’re about to make half a million dollars of what he won for us.”

A total of $536,730, Beverly Park has raised $295,628 in 2022 alone. All his life, he has 25 wins in 47 starts, with seven seconds four thirds.

“Besides the fact that he dominates for $5,000, he’s also a September Keeneland hungry for $220,000 and a beautiful horse,” Cash said. “I downloaded the trailer and figured they would scratch him that day because he was among the 3 non-winners worth $12,500, but I decided to do my due diligence anyway. and upload the trailer. An hour before the race, they still haven’t loaded” Don’t scratch him, and now I just hope I can win the swing on this horse. But the guy collecting the claims in Belterra walked up to me and said to me, ‘As soon as the gate opens, he’s yours. You ‘are the only one in the box.’ “

Beverly Park dashed home for 5 1/2 lengths that day and won six races in a row for Cash, including a Tier one grant at Churchill.

Endurance Beverly Park typically competes in shorter one-turn warm-up races held at the scale of 5 and a half to seven races on dirt roads. Even though Cash calls Midway, Ky., home, he doesn’t mind loading up his car and driving a thousand miles or more if it’s the right race for his horse. Usually, races close to home won’t take place when rival coaches see the name of Beverly Park during the night.

Beverly Park is far behind to win the grant race that starts in January at Laurel Park

In 2022, Beverly Park runs at Fair Grounds, Mahoning Valley, Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races, KeenelandChurchill Downs, Colony DownsTimoni, Delaware ParkBelterra Park, Monmouth Park, Race ParkLaurel Park, and Oaklawn Park—say it in one breath.

“I’d rather hit the road and go somewhere to find the right race than stay in place and bang my head against the wall because we’re in a race where we’re not the right fit,” Cash said. “I’m lucky to have the freedom to run him where I want because I own him.”

By July 2023, Beverly Park will lose its $5,000 original condition, but Cash believes the future is limitless for the venerable warhorse. He doesn’t rule out the possibility of breaking into competitive stakes as long as Beverly Park remains strong and ready to compete.

“This horse won’t run in a race for rights. I can’t stand it because it’s part of me and part of this barn,” Cash said. “At some point after he’s out of health, maybe next fall or winter, I’d love to try a little bet with him. I think he deserves it. If he can win some graded bets, I think he can even stand his ground on a ranch somewhere, maybe in one of the smaller states. I also have nine brood mares of my own and we’ll have nine ‘Beverlys’ running around.”

With the start of the new year, July is still six months away.

“I said to my wife, ‘You know, I think we’re going to win 10 or 12 races with this guy next year, too.’ So we’ll see,” Cash said. “But that would be a miracle.”
