Irish eyes smile at a tough Larry Fryers as he stops Joshua Rivera for six

The scheduled welterweight sixth round match between Larry Fryers, 11-6-1, and Joshua Rivera 8-2 aired live on DAZN on Thursday night as Broadway Boxing premieres on the streaming service. Fryers, fighting Yonkers by way of Clones, Ireland, prompted action by closing in and attempting to strangle La Mesa, California’s Rivera. It wasn’t the best tactic, but it was one that began to prove successful for Fryers almost immediately.
For the first three innings, Fryers simply crushed his men, never really giving Rivera a chance to counterattack. However, in the fourth inning, the referee deducted one point from Fryers on the scoreboard. Fryers continued to maintain the fight in a figurative phone booth, constantly operating his body at close range. By the fifth inning, it became clear that Rivera simply had no answer to the Fryers’ grueling inner game. Suffice it to say, Rivera basically didn’t answer the bell for the sixth and final round.
“You guys are amazing,” Fryers shouted to the cheering crowd at Sony Hall in Manhattan afterward. “Thank!” The man has much to celebrate, as he was finally able to break a substantial winless streak on Thursday night.
