Interference calls pass in question to benefit the Buccaneers, the return of the Bills in the OT thriller

Bills fans are clearly tired of watching their team play against Tom Brady. The Buccaneers quarterback had an all-time record of 32-3 against his old opponent in Sunday’s clash.

He lifted that winning post by one on Sunday in a 33-27 win in extra time, but not without controversy. The Buccaneers benefited from a questionable pass jam call on Mike Evans in injury time that sent them up 19 yards. The appeal came not long after the Bills were forced to settle for a game-ending goal after a similar game failed to result in a penalty obstructing a pass near the end of the rule.

Throw in a narrow third conversion down by Tampa Bay running back to Leonard Fournette during overtime and another previous non-PI call against Tampa Bay, and Buffalo has a couple of reasons to be understanding about what may have happened.

The Bills cut the shortfall from March 24 to 27-24. In Buffalo’s final regulatory drive, quarterback Josh Allen drove the team seven yards down Tampa Bay Road. He tossed a pass towards wide receiver Stefon Diggs in third and second in the final area, but the ball went incomplete with 28 seconds left. The play was criticized for not being called a pass interference, as it appeared that full-back Carlton Davis III interfered with Diggs in the play.

If the game is ruled PI, then the Bills will have the first point down at the 3.5-yard line. Instead, they could only draw the match at the age of 27 and advance to extra time.

The next bit of controversy ensued about Tampa Bay’s overtime driving. The Buccaneers started their race at their own 6-yard line, and on 3rd and 1st from their own 15th, Fournette rushed forward one yard. It looked like he might have been missing the marker on the pitch, but what was decisive on the pitch was that he hit the line to claim the right. After review, the call still remains.

In the next play, Brady tossed a deep left pass to Mike Evans, who was unable to make it, but Levi Wallace was asked to intervene.

Former NFL official and NBC rules analyst Terry McAulay agrees with the Bills that the call should not have been tampered with.

Three innings later, Brady beat Breshad Perriman to a 58-yard touchdown pass – which is not controversial – to close the game.

The Bills are certainly not without a chance to win. They started extra time with the ball, and beat it after a quick treble, serving to the quarterback that was forced to have their third-most winning streak of all time. They also fell behind 24-3 to start.

But that was little consolation for the frustrated Bills Mafia, who once again had to watch Brady step onto the field to be the winner.
