Ineos Automotive has delayed the launch of its upcoming product. rifleman Electric SUVs due to declining consumer demand for electric vehicles and industry uncertainty.
Revealed in February and originally planned for introduction in 2027, the Fusilier is set to become the smallest product in the Ineos range, which includes Grenadier SUV And Guards truck.
It’s also set to be Ineos’ first all-electric model, along with an EV model with an unspecified internal combustion engine option.
“We are delaying the launch of the Ineos Fusilier for two reasons: consumer enthusiasm for electric vehicles remains low and industry uncertainty around tariffs, timing and taxes,” Ineos said in a statement.
“Charging infrastructure for electric vehicles in most markets continues to develop and consumer confidence will follow suit.
“But for industry to achieve net zero emissions targets, policymakers need clarity over the long term and a range of viable technology options considering factors such as raw materials, infrastructure and affordability.”
The brand did not provide an updated launch timeline in the statement.
The UK Labour Party has announced ahead of today’s election that it plans to reinstate a ban on the sale of new internal combustion engine cars by 2030 and is now preparing to take power.
Meanwhile, the ban in Europe is still set for 2035 but could be eased further, while the outcome of the US presidential election in November could impact the continued use of electric vehicles in the country.
Like other Ineos model names, Fusilier is a military term – more specifically, a member of any regiment in the British army that was formerly armed with fusils, a type of musket.
The Fusilier also shared the boxy design language with the Grenadier, although it used its own skid plate with a steel “top hat” and underbody, and aluminium doors and locks.
The car is being developed in conjunction with automotive supplier Magna, which promises “world-class off-road capability”.
