India’s men’s and women’s hockey teams head to FIH Hockey5s Lausanne


India’s men’s and women’s teams arrived in Lausanne, Switzerland in the early hours of Wednesday morning to participate in the inaugural edition of FIH Hockey5s Lausanne 2022, scheduled to be held from June 4 to 5.

While the men’s team will play against Malaysia, Pakistan, Poland and Switzerland, the women’s team will face South Africa, Uruguay, Poland and Switzerland in the round-robin.

The top two teams will face each other in the final on June 5.

The Indian women’s team led by Rajani Etimarpu will face Uruguay in the opening match on June 4, followed by a match against Poland on the same day. They will then face hosts Switzerland and South Africa, on June 5, respectively.

Rajani said: “Hockey5s will be a completely different ball game. Our skills, speed and everything will be tested. It will certainly be a challenge, but I think it will be really fun. to play,” Rajani said in a release by Hockey India (HI).

“We have a few players on the team who are familiar with the format and we prepared well at camp. We are looking forward to representing our country in the inaugural edition of Hockey5s. ” Meanwhile, the Indian men’s team led by Gurinder Singh will play their opening match against host Switzerland, followed by a match against Pakistan on the opening day. They will then face Malaysia and Poland on June 5, respectively.

“It’s a fast-paced and challenging format. Many of our players have played the format before at the Youth Olympics, so we’re confident we’ll do well,” said Gurinder.
