Dozens of dehydrated birds are falling from the sky every day in the western Indian state of Gujarat as the country’s devastating heatwave dries up water supplies.
In response, veterinarians and animal rescuers are feeding the birds multivitamin tablets and using syringes to inject water into their mouths.

Doctors at an animal hospital in the city of Ahmedabad say thousands of birds have been treated in the past few weeks with dozens of birds like pigeons or kites every day.
Manoj Bhavsar, who works closely with the non-profit Jivdaya Charity that manages the hospital, said: “This year has been one of the worst in recent times. We have seen the number of birds in need. rescued increased by 10%”.
Health officials in Gujarat have advised hospitals to set up special wards for heatstroke and other heat-related conditions caused by rising temperatures.
