Ikelite announces housing for Canon EOS R10

Ikelite revealed housing for new Canon EOS R10 mirrorless camera. The R10 features a 24MP APS-C sensor with Dual Pixel AF, 15fps continuous shooting with a mechanical shutter (23fps with electronic shutter) and 4K/30p sampled video using the full dimension sensor width.

The new case boasts all the typical features found on Ikelite’s 200DLM case — Dry Lock Micro port system, ABS-PC body and transparent back, and laser-engraved labels that won’t scratch scratched — but has a particularly compact design. When the tray is mounted (with single or dual handles), the focus lever of the shutter and back buttons can be optionally extended.

The shipbuilding housing with a hotshoe with baffle Ikelite ICS-5 supports manual strobe exposure with strobes from Ikelite, Sea & Sea, Inon and others, and you have the option of adding Ikelite’s Canon TTL DL5 DS Link Adapter for automatic strobe exposure with a compatible Ikelite DS strobe — or two. There is also an accessory port that gives you the option of installing an Ikelite vacuum.

Currently available from the Ikelite website, the new housing is priced at $1,050 for housing only. Ikelite is also offering a kit that comes with the camera case, the Canon RF-S 18–45mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM lens (with zoom/focus unit) and a 6-inch DLM dome — with The special price is $2,395.

Ergonomics and handling

Canon cameras have some of the best ergonomics in the business, and we’ve moved it to a simple and intuitive case design. The curved trigger joystick to focus the shutter and back button can hug the side of the case if shooting without a handle, or is extended for easy access from the optional grip. AF-ON is accessible with your thumb using a lever control on the side of the case. When combined with back-button focus, this provides a much easier method of shooting than trying to press the camera’s shutter button halfway.

Soft-touch controls add comfort and extra grip to the main dial, quick control dial, power switch, and lens release. The stainless steel, direct-drive rotary controls are virtually unsafe and are user-friendly and quick to adjust.

All rear camera buttons are accessible with smooth operation, hard anodized aluminum push buttons for reliable performance and easy maintenance. These controls are clearly labeled by laser engraving on the back of the case and never fade or fall off.

Two 1/4-20 threaded mounting points are included on the bottom of the case for mounting the tray and handle system. The handle provides improved ergonomics underwater and is the foundation for your light mount. The Tray with dual quick release handle # 9523.64 is the most popular choice for both handling and mounting of accessories. We recommend you to install Activator extension #4077.95 to the shutter and AF-ON controls when using the right handgrip.

Setting

Camera holder at the front for easy installation and removal. A small mounting plate attaches to the bottom of the camera and is fixed to the front of the case. There is no need to remove the camera mount plate from the camera for surface use or when replacing batteries or memory cards. The mounting plate has a 1/4-20 threaded mount on the bottom so it can be mounted to a surface tripod.

Trust

The unique back seal design prevents accidental twisting or stretching of the o-ring for simple and confident assembly. We’ve eliminated the need for a trench or o-groove that can trap sand, dirt, or debris. The two double-locking stainless steel locking caps are simple to use and virtually unbreakable. The clear back allows you to see the o-ring that forms a strong, watertight seal when it’s closed.

Vacuum test

A spare 1/2-20 threaded accessory port is provided on the side of the case for easy optional installation Vacuum set #47012. The vacuum kit allows you to vacuum over the case to check for proper assembly before entering the water.

Vacuum painting on the system also provides additional safety at the water surface, which is especially important when using the case in areas with strong waves.

Viewfinder

The case’s standard viewfinder removes quickly and easily to attach to the optional Straight Magnifying Viewfinder #6890.2 or the 45° Magnifying Viewfinder (Type 3) #6891.3.

The camera’s large, super-bright LCD screen is viewable from side to side through the back of the case.

Lighting

TTL . flashing exposure

This case offers you the choice of manual strobe photography or adding TTL electronics depending on your application. The manual hotshoe comes with an ICS-5 baffle that supports manual strobe exposure with a variety of luminaires including Ikelite, SEA & SEA, INON, and others.

Enjoy the fastest and most accurate strobe exposure on the market by adding DL5 DS Link Canon TTL Converter and CT1 TTL Hotshoe Kit #46075 and a compatible Ikelite DS flashing. DS Link can be programmed to the specific TTL protocol of the camera and supports syncing of both front and rear blinds with the camera’s maximum flash sync speed. In-camera exposure compensation can be added or subtracted. A push button and indicator light on the side of the adapter makes it easy to switch back and forth between TTL and manual underwater exposure.

Reliable locking connectors between the hotshoe and the baffle make it easy to install the Hotshoe CT1 TTL or carry spare parts when traveling to remote locations.

Gate system

Changing ports couldn’t be simpler than with this system—just press down on the port and tighten the three thumbscrews. Feel the positive reinforcement that the gate is secured with simple components that you can trust in a remote location.

This case accepts ports from our DLM Port System to accommodate a wide selection of the best zoom, macro and wide-angle lenses for underwater use. Our custom optical grade acrylic dome components provide the color, clarity and durability of glass at a fraction of the weight and travel costs.

Corrosion-free durability and performance

Our white ABS-PC composite housing provides year-round corrosion-free strength and performance with minimal maintenance. Specially formulated color deflects the sun to keep your camera running longer, cooler. Compared to a black or clear case, the bright color provides superior contrast to enhance the view of the camera, LCD monitor and o-ring seal.

Ikelite products are designed, engineered, and tested in the USA. We use premium, locally sourced materials. Our cases are hand-built and individually tested for fit and function. Each unit is pressure tested to 200 feet (60m). We back our products with over 50 years of experience and the best reputation for service in the diving industry.

Camera compatibility

This case is only compatible with Canon EOS R10 cameras that are factory-made by the manufacturer. Unless otherwise noted, this case is not suitable for use with additional clamps, battery grips, eyepieces, LCD caps or other accessories. The camera lens must be removed before it can be attached to the case.

The difference in lens placement prevents other Canon models from being used or adapted to this housing. We are not aware of any other models that could be used or adapted for this particular housing.

Compatibility with Ikelite DS Strobe

Any Ikelite DS flash can be used in manual exposure mode by attaching one or two lights to a compatible electrical sync cord. The following DS strobe patterns can be used in TTL mode or manual exposure mode:

  • Ikelite DS50 on the #70000 series
  • Ikelite DS51
  • Ikelite DS125 on #5000 series
  • Ikelite DS160, DS161

  • Ikelite Housing to Two Ikelite Strobes #4103.52 (out of production)

The cape is not Ikelite

Electrically connected SEA & SEA, INON and Retra strobes can be activated in manual exposure mode using an electrical sync cord. Robes that do not have an electrical sync connection cannot be attached to this system unless connected to a hard-wired flash.

Ikelite Non-Digital Gown

Older non-digital flash units with ICS-5 electrical sync cord baffle can be used with this system in manual exposure mode.

Fiber Optic

Fiber-only blinkers are not compatible with this setting. An external strobe light must be connected by an electrical sync cord.

Remote Activation

The cloaks have remote auxiliary capabilities that can be activated by a flash attached to the case with an electrical sync cord. The Ikelite DS Flasher supports remote triggering using the Optical Slave Adapter #4405 or the Water Wizard system (manufactured and sold by Aquatica).
