Yesterday, Nintendo decided to drop a bomb on us and announced that Golden Eye 007 finally coming to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers this Friday, January 27th. What a treat! We’ve been waiting for this news ever since Nintendo revealed that it’s finally coming to the service.

Just hours after the announcement, Nintendo shared what could be one of the game’s most iconic tracks – the Q Watch soundtrack by legendary Rare composer Grant Kirkhope. It’s still perfectly legal, but when we listen, we (and users on ) ResetEra) noticed something was missing…

Did you notice it? The sound of ‘gong’? It’s not there! *gasp* In case you’re not used to music, this is what it should sound like.

Okay, so we haven’t gotten our hands on the game yet, so we can’t verify if it’s missing from the NSO release or it’s just missing from this clip. We do, however, worry about losing what is perhaps one of the signature sound effects of many of our childhoods.

Many suspect that, if it’s missing from the entire game, it could be an emulator issue. Previous NSO releases like Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Paper Mario had problems unique to their NSO-simulated versions, such as missing fog or menus running too fast. Nintendo has been very good at fixing these problems, so if it To be For now, we hope they will also be able to fix this issue.

However, the ‘gong’ sound isn’t just an iconic part of the GoldenEye 007 on the N64 — it’s also an important part of the film’s soundtrack and a trademark of French composer Éric Serra. Serra composed the music for the 1995 Bond film, but you can also hear the famous sound effects in Luc Besson’s films Leon: Expert in songs like ‘The game’s over‘ and ‘What’s going on out there?‘.

A few years ago, Grant Kirkhope shared how he recreated what he calls a ‘sonar’ type sound after years of being asked, and @RareLtd featuring fellow composer Robin Beanland proving its origins:

Hopefully this is just a minor glitch in the pre-release clip Nintendo shared, but we’ll find out soon enough. We also don’t know if the same issue will appear in the Xbox version, which will also release tomorrow, but we will keep it as is. eyes heard out just in case.

Did you notice the missing sound effects? Do you think it will be in the NSO version when it is released tomorrow? Let us know!
