I bought the device the pros hate (and I love it)

Waste? Or actually pretty cute?

Disdain fascinates me, as does disgust.

But when the two are combined, I can’t help but wonder about the origins and speculate about the ramifications.

Especially when negative feelings are directed towards a seemingly innocuous device.

Imagine that many experts despise this particular utility so much that they say, According to the Chronicle of San Francisco: “Hard no!”, “Never,” or even “waste.”

A wasted gadget? Extinction key concept. Utilities have always and only existed to make the world a better place and ultimately save it, that’s for sure.

But wait, what device can cause such uncontrolled negativity? Why, it’s an electric corkscrew.

If you’ve never seen one of these, it comes with a charging dock and a nice little cutter for cutting the foil from the top of a wine bottle. You can even choose a color to match your kitchen, beverage cabinet, or Formica tablecloth.

Or, if you’re a winemaker, you might turn your subtle nose up and decide to spit on the very idea.

You see, it seems that many winemakers have scoffed at the idea that you should pull out the cork with the help of technology. For them, it’s the manual method or no method at all.

Surely you have experienced the manual method. You choose the small wine key you see the restaurant servers manipulate easily. You try screwing it into the cork and it may feel a little uncomfortable with your hand doing so.

Then you have to provide a little physical effort. And then the cork fell off piece by piece.

Please, I mock a little because my own method has chosen, for a long time, a little easier winged cork. The blades rise when you screw them in, then you push them down and the cork lifts up.

But the snorts of the winemakers led me to order the electric wingless version. I have chosen Secura . electric wine opener.

Or, like it Amazon’s full listing has it: “Secura Electric Wine Opener, Automatic Electric Wine Cork Opener With Foil Cutter, Rechargeable.”

I chose vibrant blue because it matched my mood at the time.

I chose the Secura because it sells for $24.99 (at the time of writing this is still the case) and that doesn’t seem like much, given the many manual corkscrews I’ve experienced. disintegrated in an unsightly hurry. And here’s Secura’s promise: “Opens up to 30 bottles on a single charge.”

It’s not like I’ve opened 30 bottles in one evening, but sometimes I tend to not charge devices until they’re almost out of juice.

All I can tell you about electric corkscrews — at least this one — is that they are easy to use. You fit the top of the bottle under the corkscrew, you push the button, the cork goes in, the cork comes out and you push the button back to get the cork out of the Secura.

It even makes a rather pleasant humming sound.

However, it seems that traditionalists think all of this is something obscene. It’s just not done. It’s not natural. However, here I wonder how many of them use a electric toothbrush.

Full disclosure: I did spend some time in California’s wine country. I am called the Wine Ambassador for Napa’s Honig . Winery. So yeah, I know that many winemakers can’t get their emotions to work in sync with an electric corkscrew. They actually say that electric corkscrews are only for “lazy” people. Or, as one winemaker told me, “Ugh.”

However, there are some winemakers who view such attitudes with glee.

One of Sonoma’s most innovative, fun and simple winemakers, Ben Larks’ idle cellartold me of his snobbish classmates: “Who cares what they think? It’s your right to use boots, hammer and nails, open it. The sound of a pop button is what people do. traditionalists like.”

May your new year bring creativity, the ability to live life as you choose and add a pop. And thank you for reading that is technically incorrect.
