In a world where electric vehicles are in short supply, Hyundai Australia trending with it Toyota Kluger-competitor Santa Fe.
As it is now, Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid accounted for 21% of revenue, or more than one-fifth of Santa Fe vehicles registered in Australia. For reference, diesel accounts for 66% and V6 petrol for 14%.
In addition to healthy sales, Hyundai Australia says it has a Santa Fe Hybrid stocks on the ground in Australia right now, with “good steady supply coming in the next few months”.
“I understand that a customer can walk into a dealership right now and buy a Santa Fe Hybrid. [and shortly take delivery],” said Tim Rodgers, director of product development and planning at Hyundai Australia.
“It’s actually quite unique,” added Mr Rodgers, referring to the rival’s supply difficulties making it difficult to supply electric vehicles to the Australian market.
The 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid starts at $63,000 for the Elite and $69,550 for the top-spec Highlander – $3,000 more than comparable Diesel AWD models. All prices do not include road charges.
Hyundai has chosen to bring only the all-wheel drive (AWD) variant to Australia, although a cheaper front-wheel drive option is available overseas, as well as in the countries involved. Kia Sorento Hybrid that is currently on sale due to the supply being described as “tokenism at best”.
Thus, the Santa Fe Hybrid uses the same 1.6-liter turbocharged petrol hybrid powertrain like its Sorento cousin, providing the system output of 169kW And 350Nmand claims a combined fuel use of 6.0L per 100km.
Exclusive local models drive all four wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission, which also integrates 44.2kW/264Nm electric motor.
For reference, Kia Sorento HEV quotes 5.3-5.8L/100km (FWD-AWD) and Toyota Kluger hybrid claims to use 5.6L/100km on the combined cycle.
