Hyundai reminds us how to pronounce its name

What’s in a name? Quite a bit, if you are Hyundai.

The company’s UK division has booked a video on YouTube outline the correct way to say its name.

While Australians and Brits often call it ‘Hee-un-day’ or ‘Hi-un-day’, and our North American friends often call it ‘Hun-day’, it is actually ‘Hyoon-day’.

“Welcome to the dawn of a new Hyundai,” the introduction accompanies the video.

“The year 2023 marks the dawn of a new Hyundai in the UK. We took this opportunity to break the mold and embrace a new chapter for our car and company, including changing the pronunciation of the brand in the UK to match the global organization and our Korean heritage.”

UK car title car magazine asked Hyundai management there about the new branding campaign, which began on Gift Day with the tagline: “’If you think you know our cars and how to call our names, it’s probably arrived. when you have to think again.”

“Hyundai is a young, innovative and progressive brand that has transformed itself at breakneck speed. “We are proud to be Koreans with real character and purpose,” said CEO Ashley Andrews.

“…With this campaign, we wanted to add a bit of humor and personality to our brand, which we hope will encourage more people to learn more about Hyundai.”

Now, I just need to correct decades of habitual mispronunciation…
