Hyundai patents feature that can turn anyone into a car racer
Hyundai Motor Company filed a patent for a lap driver assistance system, which can provide steering, braking and acceleration instructions via a display to the driver.
The system is available in Hyundai, Kia and Genesis models by patent. The company has identified a Hyundai N vehicle in its patent filing.
Based on an image in the profile, Hyundai could name the feature N Speedway.
The setup allows the vehicles to communicate with a server to relay vehicle data including driver profile information, data from the vehicle’s sensors and cameras, as well as tuning information.
The vehicle will collect driving data including vehicle speed, steering angle and pedal input during a lap.
Once collected, it is forwarded to a server and then analyzed to identify assisted driving instructions that can display speed, acceleration and braking changes as well as vertices throughout a circle.
According to the patent, the system can be used by multiple vehicles at the same time.
This feature is capable of displaying track times, leaderboard ratings and other vehicle information to other drivers.
Information can be collected to create a large database of driver profiles to further improve the accuracy of information passed to drivers.
Hyundai has yet to confirm whether the system will enter production.
