No car manufacturer has the right timing on semiconductor chips and boards, but Hyundai and That are having a particularly difficult time. Two brands have recently had to recall four models about two problems with the circuit board in their official drag hitchhiking accessories. Now a potential problem with the oil pump control board in an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission used by Hyundai and Kia is forcing remember out of eight models. A soldering job of insufficient potential can allow a board component to detach, thereby causing pump failure. If that happens, a warning light, buzzer, and “immediate stop” indication will alert the driver and the vehicle will go into safe mode to prevent further damage. The bigger problem is that the transmission control unit (TCU) allows the driver 20 to 30 seconds to park in a safe position before disengaging the transmission’s clutch. Without the clutch actuator, the vehicle will not move.

There are 53,142 Hyundais in the U.S. of the total recalled, with another 8,719 in Canada. There are 69,038 Kias participating, 65,612 of them Sorentos. Automakers believe that no more than one percent of the total population is affected by this problem.
The fix is a trip to seller to check the transmission and update the software. Dealers will replace faulty transmissions free of charge and upload a new TCU program that extends back-up safety operations to give riders more time to a safe haven.
