The idea of the Point Color tool is to enable more precise color edits with ease. In the past, it could be tricky to select the exact color you wanted to edit and subsequently adjust the hue, saturation, and luminance, but Point Color aims to remedy that by allowing to first select it, then widen the selection to an appropriately sized band of nearby colors, after which you can make the normal adjustments.
