How to prevent programs from loading when macOS starts

The last one I need when I start my Mac half of the apps decide they need to open before I can do anything else. It’s not that I don’t want to any apps start when my Mac starts, but too many apps do this by default, which means I have to wait longer before I can use my machine to do important things , such as watching videos on YouTube.

It’s a drag, but you can control it. Note that we also wrote about how to stop loading programs on Windows startupso check if you are a PC user or not.

Turn Windows on and off at startup

By default, your Mac will reopen all windows after you restart it. Disabling this is the best first step to having fewer apps start at startup. While some people appreciate continuing from where they left off, others may prefer to choose which apps to open first. The simplest way to change this setting is to uncheck the checkbox Reopen the window when re-login checkbox before reboot.

This setting will stay the same the next time you reboot. Note that in the event of a problem, your Mac will still offer to reopen windows when you start it up.

Check system settings

With macOS 13 Ventura, you can find all the apps that are set to start when you sign in to System Settings. You can open this setting by clicking the Apple icon in the top left corner and then clicking System installation. Go overview in the left sidebar and then click Login item.
