How to incorporate lights into place

Being a photographer means being able to adapt to any given lighting situation to create remarkable photos. In this video, Sophia Carey shares some of her insights with a behind-the-scenes look at a nighttime portrait session on film.

Sometimes it is within limits or constraints that you can see that you have done your best work. When considering your photography in this way, it is very important to set certain parameters for yourself and then see if you can create something amazing in it, like case of this video and shoot brilliant portraits at night.

Carey shares a lot of thematic knowledge in the video, including how to measure footage, push and pull film, and combine ambient light with off-camera lights to create colorful and vibrant images.

As I often say in these articles, learning and growth happen step by step. You don’t have to learn everything there is to know about photography in one photo session. That would actually be pretty silly. But if you think of an area where you can improve and then do a mock-up on that area and practice on that, you’ll learn that. And that’s a better place not to be, until the next shoot, when you try something different.
