How to import Google calendar into Microsoft Outlook

You can import static snapshots of your Google calendar into Microsoft Outlook to avoid missed appointments or scheduling errors.

Use of a third-party calendar, such as Google Calendar, even if you also use Microsoft Outlook’s Calendar feature. One can use Outlook on your PC and Google Calendar on mobile. With two different calendars, you may want to see events from both Google and Outlook on the same calendar to avoid scheduling confusion. Fortunately, this is possible.

In this tutorial, I will show you how to import a Google Calendar file into Microsoft Outlook. In a future article, I will show you how to subscribe to Google Calendar using Microsoft Outlook.

I am using Microsoft Outlook desktop and Google Calendar with Edge on Windows 10 64-bit system. You can use older versions through Outlook 2013. Don’t worry if your steps don’t exactly match the post. If you encounter a difference, it should be a bit.

What is the difference between import and register?

When you import a Google calendar (.ics) file, you get a one-time static image of your existing events that you can then overlay on your Microsoft Outlook calendars. Remember that Google and Outlook don’t sync. Anything you add to Google Calendar after you import it won’t show up in Microsoft Outlook.

Subscribing to Google Calendar creates a connection between the two calendar apps to add events to Google Calendar that will show up in your Outlook calendar. It’s important to note that the connection only goes one way – from Google to Outlook. Any events you add to Outlook Calendar will never show up in Google Calendar over this connection, but you can.

How to import a Google calendar file

You may be wondering why you would want to import a static display of Google Calendar events. If you’re migrating everything from Google Calendar to Microsoft Outlook, there won’t be any more events to view, so you won’t need a dynamic connection to your Google Calendar. If such a case arises, you can import Google calendars into Microsoft Outlook as follows:

1. Using your favorite browser, open Google Drive and select Calendar. You can also open your Gmail account with your favorite browser to access your calendar.
2. Select My Calendars in the left pane, then select Settings from the gear icon in the top right (Picture A).
3. Select Import & Export in the left pane, then click Export in the drop-down menu. At the top of the results pane, you can type. Click Export, as shown in Figure BUGbelow the import options.
4. When prompted by your browser, save the calendar. Depending on your browser settings, it may automatically save the file to the Downloads folder. If your browser prompts you to do so, select a location to save the exported file. Remember to write down the location so you don’t forget, especially if you don’t enter it right away. Google will download a file with your email address in the name.
5. Find the exported file. Right click and select Extract All.
6. Select a location, as shown in SIZEand click Extract. Since these are temporary files, there is no reason to change the default location. To view the extracted files, select the Show Extracted Files When Complete option. If you have multiple Google calendars, you will have one .ics file for each calendar. There are two Google Calendar files displayed in Visualization.

After exporting the Google Calendar file(s), import one into Microsoft Outlook as follows:

1. Open the Microsoft Outlook desktop and go to the Calendar window.
2. Click the File tab and select Open & Export from the left pane.
3. Select Import/Export to launch the Import and Export Wizard.
4. Select Import iCalendar (.ics) or vCalendar file, and then click Next.
5. Browse the extracted Google files (Figure E).
6. Select a calendar file and click Open. You can only import one .ics file at a time.
7. Click OK, then select Open as New or Import, as shown in Figure F, to import calendar events. This choice is up to you. If you import it as a new calendar, you can display them together, as shown in WOOD Figureor overlay them to combine events into a single view.

At this point, you should see all the events stored on your Google Calendar in Microsoft Outlook. Remember, this is a one-time snapshot. If you add or remove events from your Google Calendar after importing, the new events won’t show up in Microsoft Outlook.

How to Import to Outlook.com

Have a Microsoft Outlook account that cannot import from Outlook Calendar. It’s usually a server error that you can’t fix yourself. If this happens to you, consider using Outlook.com’s calendar as an alternative.

To sync Outlook.com and Google Calendars, do the following:

1. Open Google Calendar with your browser.
2. Copy the URL to the Windows Clipboard.
3. Open Outlook.com and click Add calendar in the left pane.
4. Click Upload from file in the left pane.
5. In the window that appears, click Browse and find the same file you imported in the above section.
6. Click Import.

After importing calendars into Outlook.com, Google calendar events can appear in Outlook.com’s calendar and in Outlook Desktop under Other Calendars. This technique is unpredictable and may not work. It can show new calendars, but not existing events. It’s worth a try.

Keep stable

Now that you know how to import a Google calendar file into Microsoft Outlook Desktop, you might realize it’s not what you need. If you want to continue using Google Calendar and see new events in Microsoft Outlook, subscribe to the calendar.
