It addresses the need to better remove distractions, a task that previously required Photoshop. The update, available in Lightroom Classic version 13.3 and Lightroom version 7.3, leverages AI to effectively remove unwanted elements from your photos.
Kloskowski shows how this tool works in the familiar cloning and healing stamp interface. The AI-based eraser will detect objects and provide multiple variations for you to choose from. This flexibility allows for better results, reducing the need to switch between Lightroom and Photoshop. The process is simple: paint over the unwanted object, let the AI do its job, and cycle through the generated variations until you find the most suitable one. If the results aren’t perfect, you can refresh and get new options.
One of the main benefits of this tool is its ability to handle larger objects and complex backgrounds. Kloskowski demonstrates its effectiveness with several examples, including removing highlights and distracting elements that previously required Photoshop. While the tool isn’t perfect and may require some subsequent tweaking with cloning or healing tools, it will greatly improve the workflow.
