The Duovox camera has 22 points of dynamic range, an aperture of f/0.9, and can see color in the dark
Cameras in general tend to struggle in low-light situations. Even full-frame cameras like Sony a7S III will struggle to produce useful results in extremely low light situations. This is especially a problem for video; however, a company called Duovox seems to have overcome these obstacles.
Duovox’s first camera was the Duovox Mate Pro. This tiny camera manages to pack quite well with the ability to shoot in near complete darkness. In these situations, you’ll want to use a night vision camera. Unfortunately, night vision does not produce colorful footage and results may be limited due to quality.
The Duovox Mate Pro manages to capture full color in conditions that are almost as dark as ink. The camera uses a 5-megapixel Sony Starvis sensor that has a crop factor of about 4.8x compared to full-frame. This is notably smaller than the sensor on the iPhone 13 Pro.
Even so, the Duovox Mate Pro sensor can capture an astonishing 22 stops of dynamic range. This is far beyond what even a full frame camera like the Sony a7S III can capture, rated for up to 15 stops of dynamic range.
In addition, the camera comes with an f/0.9 lens. This explains why the optics are so big considering how small the sensor is. However, Duovox has managed to keep the overall dimensions of the camera quite small, to the point where it can comfortably be used as a webcam replacement.
