How Dumb and Dumber Inspired Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s Most Public Display of Affection Ever

No idea is stupid, but More and more stupid Ideas are another story. That’s what Travis Kelce learned when he suggested to his girlfriend Taylor Swift that he snuck on stage during her Eras Tour around the world as a guest.

“I mentioned that to Tay from the beginning,” Travis said. Jason Kelcehis brother and co-host, in their latest episode A new level podcast, which was published on Wednesday. “I thought, ‘How funny would it be if I just rolled around on one of those bikes in 1989 era?'”

That idea, of course, evolved into a tuxedo-clad, top-hatted Travis picking Swift up off the stage after she performed “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived” and pantomime-ing her way through “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart” on June 23 at Swift’s third London show. The onstage appearance was a first for Travis, and for, well, any of Swift’s love interests. As the old Swift might say, welcome to the stage… my boyfriend!

On the podcast, Travis said Swift asked if he was “seriously interested in doing something like that.”

“I just thought, ‘What? I really want to do it, are you kidding me? I’ve seen enough of this show—maybe I should work here,’” he said. “And sure enough, she found the perfect part of the show for me to be on.”

Riding a bike, it turns out, isn’t the perfect option, “in case I run into someone or one of the dancers or whatever,” Travis says. “It’s the safest option.”

Instead, he appeared alongside the “real showman” Swift in a sequence of events that could be interpreted as symbolic, while putting less physical strain on both the dancer and Travis, who arguably shouldn’t risk injury before his next season as a professional football player. Look, everyone needs a side hustle these days, and the NFL is his.

Travis called it an “honor” and “an absolute blast” to perform with Swift, not to mention the crowd’s explosive reaction to his appearance.

“When people realized it was me—because it took a second for people to realize—it was a pretty shocking moment,” he said. “I just thought, ‘Oh my god.’ And you don’t realize how big that fucking stage is. It was the size of a football stadium… it was so much bigger than I could have imagined.”

That’s not to say he wasn’t nervous, though he noted that “you can’t go wrong with Taylor on stage, she’s really, she’s the best at it.” However, Travis’ inner monologue warned him otherwise.

“One thing I tell myself is don’t drop the baby,” he said. “Don’t drop this. Don’t drop Taylor on the way to the damn couch. The golden rule is don’t drop Taylor, get her to the couch safely.”

And, true to the brand of a guy who was immortalized in song for his love Grand Theft Auto And American style muffinsTravis revealed that he was inspired by another key part of the classic ’90s soundtrack for his performance: More and more stupid. He tried to convey Jim Carreytap dance in the movie, which was well received in the movie from Jeff Daniels as Travis did with the London audience. Travis was just missing the orange tuxedo.

“I’ve always wanted to do this move, but I never knew, like, when I was going to do it in the right place,” Travis says of the energetic choreography. “It’s one of my favorite moves of all time!”

He called it “the perfect time for me to go up there and just fool around and have a little fun.”
