V Rising is a survival game with action RPG elements and sharp skill-based combat coming to PlayStation 5 later this year. Awake as a Vampire after centuries of slumber, your kin forgotten after their catastrophic defeat at the hands of the Church of Light. Emerge from your crypt, explore a vast open world, hunt for blood, and build a vast castle in your quest to reclaim your former glory.
But what glory can be reclaimed? What are vampires promised?
Earlier this year when we announced that V-Rising will be coming to PS5, we provided a glimpse of its storyline, gameplay mechanics, and vast open world. Today, we want to focus on one corner of the kingdom, the dangers that await within, and of course, the Vampire King plotting his return from the heart of its gloomy land: Dracula.
Legend of the immortal king
In the world of V Rising, Dracula is both conqueror and tyrant, ruling from his throne in the icy kingdom of Mortium, untouched by sunlight at the heart of the Vampire empire. From there, he waged a great war and pushed humanity to the brink of destruction. Mankind’s desperate prayers were answered in the form of a sudden divine power that, for the first time, allowed them to repel not only Dracula’s Noctum Army but also strike down the Immortal King himself.
However, for Dracula, failure is not death.
In the many ages since, the dark lord has resided in a weakened state in the Shadow Realm, strengthening himself and planning his return. That time has come. Dracula issued a call to arms… awakening countless legions of Vampires from their centuries-long rest. However, not all awakened people are satisfied with serving. Some are more ambitious than others and will instead seek to claim the throne for themselves. In V Rising, you are such a Vampire.
Enter the ruins of Mortium
The core of the Vampire empire lies in Mortium, a cold and regal snowscape famously unaffected by sunlight. This was once the center of the powerful Vampire civilization, ruled by the legendary Dracula. But now, after much time has passed, the great towers and fortresses of the Legion of Noctum lie in ruins, abandoned and forgotten.
Deep in Mortium, life stirs again, inhabited by servants and fanatical worshipers of Dracula, along with newfound dangers. Unbound by convention, the dark lord has flourished in the Shadow Realm and his imminent return will bring forth creatures from faraway realms. Behold the Draculin, creatures from the Dark Kingdom seemingly tainted by Dracula’s bloody influence.
These otherworldly creatures carry unique blood from the dark realm, and drinking it grants unique bonuses for you to use. Depending on the quality of your blood type, you will be able to move faster at night, heal more easily, and have many advantages that will allow you to kill easier and more often.
You’ll also face the Vampire Generals of the Noctum Legion, some of Dracula’s oldest and most fervent followers. Overcoming them will unlock ancient powers tied directly to your Vampire lineage, uncovering secrets that will allow you to expand your connection to deeper Vampire magics.
Dracula rises
The final challenge of your Vampire journey will be to fight your way into the deepest abyss of Mortium, where Dracula’s forces gather at the foot of his castle. Once great and powerful, it stands as a testament to what the great king of the Vampires once achieved and the dominance he sought to bring upon his return.
In Mortium, the Legion of Noctum is attempting dark rituals to flood the world with Draculin from the Dark Realm so they can collect blood, fueling the magical engine that will bring about the return of the Dark Kingdom. Completely Dracula’s again. It will be up to you to go and disrupt these invasions, breach their dark rifts, and collect the magical essence left in their wake.
You’ll be able to use these resources to harness the powerful power of Vampires, craft and power up weapons, and even craft the keys needed to strike at the core of operations of the Immortal King. After gaining knowledge and power by sucking the blood of Dracula’s closest and strongest servants, you’ll have all you need to infiltrate the Dark Kingdom and face it yourself. Dracula.
This final battle will test the limits of your abilities and force you to prove that you are truly worthy of the title of Vardoran’s apex predator.
