Harley-Davidson Sportster recalled for separate warning labels
Harley-Davidson is recalling more than 4,000 Sportster motorcycles because their brake fluid warning labels may come off the brake fluid reservoir cap.
If this happens, the motorcycle will not comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 122, “Motorcycle Braking System” and therefore should be recalled by NHTSA.
In total, three Sportster models are affected by this recall: XL1200X (2021-2022), XL883N (2021-2022), and XL1200NS XL (2021).
Failure to have a brake fluid warning message on the reservoir cap can lead to incorrect maintenance procedures if the vehicle owner does not approach or consult the owner’s manual (which includes the oil specifications for the brake fluid). brake).
To remedy the problem, Harley-Davidson will mail the replacement label free of charge to the owner. Harley-Davidson Sportster owners can also bring their motorcycles to a dealer for a free label inspection and replacement.
Owner notice letters are expected to be mailed on April 1, 2022. Harley’s number for this recall is 0632. As always, NHTSA is available at 1-888- 327-4236 and safecar.gov.
