Hamzah Sheeraz vs Francisco Emanuel Torres: Results, Reports and Highlights
Debut frontman Hamzah Sheeraz survived a terrifying third-round bout to overtake Francisco Emanuel Torres at Copper Box, London this evening.
The towering 6ft 3 middleweight is fighting for the vacant WBC Silver title as his progress to world level continues at a consistent pace.
Athlete Frank Warren has put Sheeraz (16-0, 12 KOs) at the top since the early days of the Londoner’s career and will likely see further development over Torres.
Jab-Right Hand
Sheeraz jab and right hand are sound effects that can be heard around the arena with Torres (17-4-1, 5 KOs) on the receiving end of many.
The opening round started with each boxer’s jab sending them into the fight, but it was clear that Sheeraz brought the heavier peach. As the Argentinian was looking for a left-hand strike, the Englishman caught the eye with a boxing strike that delighted his fans.
In the first 30 seconds of the second, Torres staggered back after being netted to the left. But South Americans are not built to give in at the first sign of trouble. However, the 32-year-old had to prop a right hand down the pipe and a brief time on the rope when Sheeraz made the attack. It’s a three-minute dominance and maturity from home favorites.
A memorable Tuesday
Fans leaving the Bronze Box tonight will be talking about round 3 tomorrow. Sheeraz’s ramrod stab is becoming a problem for Torres and it was the shot that knocked him down seconds after the start of the match.
Also during Torres’ recovery, he was back with the right arm that Sheeraz smugly stepped forward and leveled the playing field. What is next? Well, Sheeraz proved it was a lightning strike and a minute later sent his more experienced opponent to the floor with a short right that he began to favor.
Sixty seconds on the stool is a welcome amount of time. Fourth is the best round Torres. His confidence grew and began to cause Sheeraz to miss who in turn raised his left hand higher to avoid making more mistakes.
The fifth part begins with Sheeraz catching either on the gauntlet. Those single rights came back and made Torres hit back. He might have thought he was in for the fight, but that feeling was erased by a smack to the right hand mid-half, sending Torres down for the third and final time. Referee Mark Lyson saw enough and saved the away boxer one more day.

The reaction
Sheeraz spoke about the outstanding third round with BT Sports afterwards.
“I stuck to the game plan behind the bump, knocked him down, disrespected his strength, got a little greedy and found myself on the frame.”
“I talked to (coach) Ricky [Funez] another day and through whatever happens in the war, it will be kept. I got kicked in the back by Ricky.”
Frank Warren smiled and said:
“I am really pleased with the performance. He shoved him down with his stab. He is a very strong puncher. He’s so smart, Ricky’s done a great job. “
“We have to move him up now. The opponent is a good, tough guy. He (Hamzah) has made his mark on the world stage. Now, we have brought him forward. Every fight has to take a step forward and tonight he has a few things in his closet to look back on.”
