GWM, Haval sales hit new monthly high
Of China GWM broke its sales record in Australia in September thanks to improving supply and consumer appetite for affordable cars.
The company sold 3050 units and SUVs in September, up 69.4%, ranking 11th in the market between Subaru and Isuzu Ute. This equates to a monthly market share of 3.3%.
Its top performers are GWM Haval H6 with monthly sales of 1294, making it the sixth best selling midsize SUV in the country with 8.7% market share, outperforming Honda CR-VA (781) and Subaru Forester (687).
Next is GWM Ute dual taxis with sales of 946 units, of which 936 are more expensive than 4x4s. This result shows that it is larger Nissan Navara (681) and Mazda BT-50 (448), and equivalent to 5.4% market share.
Interestingly, another Chinese budget, LDV T60performed better with 962 sales.
The last member of the GWM range is Haval Jolionreached 810 sales in September. It took sixth place in the small SUV segment, finishing mid Mazda CX-30 (942) and Kia Seltos (772), while holding 8.2% market share.
GWM’s year-to-date statistics for the end of September are 16,371 sales, helping it to achieve around 22,000 sales this year.
To put this YTD number into context, GWM ranks 15th in the market, behind Suzuki (16,911) but ahead of Tesla, LDV, Honda, Audi and Renault.
Australia is one of GWM’s largest export markets and the local factory-supported distributor has several new products in the works.
Despite the delay, we still expect to see some or all Tank GWM 300, Tank GWM 500and GWM Haval Dargo SUV, new Ora Good Cat EVand 260kW . V6 petrol engine GWM Shanhai Cannon ‘premium’ pickup from 2023.
Moreover, CarExpert understands that the brand could have a total of six or seven electric cars in its lineup by the end of next year.
GWM announced in August that it wants 80% of Haval’s global sales to be plug-in hybrid or pure electric by 2025, before ending production of all internal combustion powertrains by 2030.
