Inside, there’s a new center console and steering wheel design, along with a larger 14.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster remains the same.

It will continue to be offered with both petrol and hybrid powertrains but, as previously confirmedGWM could bring a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) version of the Haval H6 to Australia.

The PHEV version of the upgraded Haval H6 has yet to be officially revealed or detailed in China.

The Haval H6 is just one of a series of new cars planned for launch by 2025.

GWM Haval H6 GT PHEV

GWM Australia has confirmed the Haval H6 GT SUV coupe will be offered with a plug-in hybrid powertrain.

It will be the brand’s first PHEV model in Australia when it launches in the first quarter of 2025.

GWM says the Haval H6 GT PHEV’s 35.4kWh battery allows for an all-electric range of up to 180km.

Unusually, this car isn’t currently offered in China, where you can only get the PHEV powertrain with the regular Haval H6, and the maximum NEDC range is 110km.

It’s also unclear whether the Haval H6 GT will get the same upgrades as its more conventionally styled sibling, which went on sale in China earlier this year.

GWM Cannon

The GWM Cannon – finally ditching the dull Ute moniker – is borrowing the 2.4-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine from the larger car Alpha Cannon.

The updated version will be released in the first quarter of 2025.

The new engine is mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission, producing 135kW of power and 480Nm of torque.

Braked towing capacity increased from 3200kg to 3500kg.

Minor changes on the exterior include a new grille, front bumper and wheel designs.

More significant visual changes can be seen inside, with a new dashboard, fewer physical gearshifts, and a larger 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system. There’s also an “aeronautical-style” gearshift lever borrowed from GWM’s Tank SUV.

The product will officially be available in the local market in the first quarter of 2025.

The 2.4-litre engine produces 135kW and 480Nm of torque, the same as in the Cannon and Cannon Alpha pick-ups, and joins existing petrol and hybrid options.

GWM Alpha Cannon

The recently unveiled Cannon Alpha – a larger and more luxurious version of the Cannon – will be powered by a plug-in hybrid powertrain.

The model is expected to arrive in local dealerships in late first or early second quarter of 2025, becoming the brand’s second PHEV in Australia.

The car is equipped with a 37.1kWh three-component lithium battery, allowing the car to travel up to 110km on electricity according to the WLTC cycle.

Powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, the Cannon Alpha Hi4T produces a total system output of 300kW and 750Nm.

The model will join the existing gasoline and hybrid versions of GWM’s flagship pickup truck range.

GWM Haval H7

While GWM previously said it had no firm launch date for the Haval H7 mid-size SUV in Australia, it now says the model is “still on the company’s radar” for a Q2 2025 launch.

Local approvals have recently been completed for the SUV, which is expected to be a bit more rugged than the Haval H6 but not as aggressive as the Tank 300 off-roader.

GWM Australia says it has yet to finalize a name for the model. In China, it will be known as the second-generation Big Dog or Big Dog II, while in South Africa it will be called the Haval H7.

GWM 500 Tank

GWM Australia CEO Charles Zhao said Car expert A plug-in hybrid version of the Tank 500 off-roader is coming to Australia, but it could be “a little later” than the Cannon Alpha Hi4T.

The vehicle uses the same powertrain as the plug-in Cannon Alpha and has an electric range of 110km.

Like the PHEV pickup, GWM brought a model to Australia for local media to review.

GWM Ora Sports

Not locked down for Australia yet Ora Sports electric car, which GWM brought to Australia for journalists and dealers to see.

However, the company said it was “still under review” and hoped to confirm further details about a potential Australian launch “in the coming months”.

This will give the local GWM lineup a second electric vehicle (EV), with the Ora Sport joining the smaller Ora hatchback and giving the brand an alternative to the Tesla Model 3 and BYD Seal.

This isn’t the only model that GWM executives have talked about but haven’t confirmed, another is the Haval H9 SUV that competes with the Toyota Prado.

They are sold through a network of 107 dealers nationwide.

GWM said it is expecting another record annual sales result, which makes sense given the rapid growth of the local product category in recent times.

GWM sold 27,991 vehicles in Australia in the first eight months of this year, up 21.8 per cent on the same period last year, when models like the Cannon Alpha and Tank 500 were still unavailable.

GWM expects domestic sales to exceed 40,000 for the first time this year.
