Grow old at Animal Place
There is something very tender about caring for an aging companion animal.
As we see our friends grow older, it’s our duty to keep them safe and comfortable. You can clearly know the feeling. Find a new bunch of gray fur on your cat’s snout or hear a dog sigh after lying down.
In a nonverbal language, they begin to tell us that their time on Earth is limited.
Loving animal caretakers go to great lengths to keep their elderly friends comfortable. The dog’s bed was changed to a larger and softer bed. Ramps are added to the furniture to allow for easier access.
In animal agriculture, farm animals are not provided with these luxuries. In fact, they will never see their “golden years”. Their lives were cut short when they were still babies.
This is why watching farm animals grow old at Animal Place is even more special. We know that our rescued senior residents are a rare number of their kind. This makes us want to give them The best life imaginable.
The gray hairs on the face of an old cow or the patchy hairs on the face of an old sheep are a victory in our eyes. It means they were have done it. They beat the odds. All animals have a strong will to live. But these individuals have been fortunate to find people who respect that.
We cherish every day with our senior residents. Just like your companion animals at home, time with them is never a given.
Farmed animals are just as worthy as any dog or cat of a soft ground. They deserve to bask in the sun, even if coming back is a little more difficult than before. They deserve quality time with their flock or flock, even if they may fall a few steps behind others. Often they need more attention from our animal caretakers. And that’s okay!
It was an honor to watch these incredible creatures reach their golden years. In a world where most domesticated animals have their lifespans cut short at such a young age, living up to their natural lifespan is a proud achievement.
Because human kindness has made our work possible, we can offer animals the most priceless gift: being able to experience a lifetime, from start to finish, on their own terms.
