Microsoft Flight SimulatorThe Game Of The Year Edition is out now, bringing with it Update VII and the latest collection of new airports, planes, and more beautiful cities. It also adds a number of new features, including an improved weather system, new guides, and new missions.
Reno Air Races, the game’s first expansion pack, also launches today.
The GOTY version brings together all the updates released so far, but let’s focus on what’s new. There are 8 new craft airports across Europe, 545(!) Presumably non craft around the US, and 5 new planes including the Boeing F/A-18 Super Hornet, the first military jet added to the game.
The most exciting thing for me, a Flight Simulator tourist, are the new cities of photometry. New exact replicas of real locations include: Helsinki in Finland; Freiburg in Germany; Brighton, Derby, Eastbourne, Newcastle and Nottingham in the UK; Vers-Pont-Du-Gard, Chambord and Port-Vendres in France; and Utrecht in the Netherlands. As someone who lives in Brighton, I look forward to coming to my house or going to that junk food place that once sent me a bad pizza.

The expansion of Reno Air Races makes me less interested. This is the first paid DLC for the game, and it adds 40 new, licensed planes designed for races in the skies. The full package costs $60, although you can get four planes to race in online multiplayer for a smaller $20. You can also learn more about DLC in this MSFS blog post.
I don’t mind paying a premium for a well-accurate drawing of a niche passion. This is absolutely going to be some people’s thing, and obviously a lot of effort has been put into it, which is very fair. Me, I just want to get into the businesses that I feel have despised me in Brighton.
