GoPro announces HERO11 Black and HERO11 Black Mini

GoPro has revealed its newest action cam — the HERO 11 Black—And launched a new Mini model with it. Except for the other number on the side, the HERO 11 Black is physically identical to its predecessor, which is great news for underwater videographers who already have a lot of accessory, but the camera boasts a new sensor capable of recording 10-bit 5.3K/60p video. Interestingly, with the lack of both front and rear windows, HERO 11 Black Mini reduced in size but not in performance — it can also record 5.3K/60p video in 10-bit quality.

The cameras build on a new 27-megapixel sensor with a surprising 8:7 aspect ratio. Thanks to new 10-bit recording, the sensor delivers over a billion colors for improved image quality. “amazing” compared to the 8-bit color of previous sensors, according to GoPro. The new higher sensor’s viewport can be cropped to different vertical aspect ratios for Instagram and TikTok using GoPro’s Quik app. There is also a new 16:9 ultra-wide view, called HyperView, on offer. With the new sensor, the ability to capture still images will increase to 27MP, up from 23MP of the previous generation.

Other notable features include HyperSmooth, GoPro’s image stabilization software, now at 5.0; the company’s Enduro battery is being packaged as standard (it was previously sold as an accessory); and the price for the HERO 11 Black is still $500 (or $400 with a GoPro subscription) —the HERO 11 Black Mini is $100 less. The latter can be purchased from October 25, while the former is available now. from retailers like Backscatter.
