Good Magic Colt rings the bell for young pinners

Picking your points, whether buying or selling Purebreds, is an art, and pickpockets Aidan and Hannah Jennings proved in the Fasig-Tipton July Sale that they have a knack for picking the right one.

The couple who own Killora Stud near Paris, Ky., celebrated a rich score on July 11 when a good magic The foal they bought while weaned for $49,000 became the second highest priced pony sold for $370,000 during the one-day sale.

Hannah Jennings said: ‘The foal is quite early in development, so we thought July was the right time for it. “The male did a great job taking the (Kentucky) Derby winner (G1) and a gunman sold here last year brought in $2.2 million in the April sale (Ocala Breeders Sales).

“So we were delighted that all the hookers were aiming for him,” Aidan Jennings said of their Good Magic pony. “I’ve never had a horse as famous as this. We’re on the moon.”

Padraig Campion’s Blandford Stud consigned the Good Magic pony which sold for Hip 175. This year is the third batch of ponies from weaning to adulthood he’s sold to Jennings, who co-owns the monthly foal. Seven with Charles Hynes.

“Aidan and Hannah are both horse savvy, so they’re a good buy,” says Campion. “We thought the pony would fit in here. Whenever you can be the big fish in a small pond it seems to work out and this pony has attracted a lot of attention. interested. All the right people aim for it.”

Agents Hunter Rankin and Stanley Hough purchased the Hip 175 on behalf of Travis Boersma’s Boardshorts Stables. They bought another horse during the sale, for $125,000 for a Ghostzapper colt (Hip 245) among the winners of the Graeme Hall You Bought Her bet. Hip 245 was consigned by Happy Farm.

Aidan Jennings, a native of Ireland, said they were lucky enough to purchase a Good Magic pony they bought at the Keeneland November Breeding Sale from a Vinery Sales consignment. He was the first pony out of Carpe Diem Scending mare, who only wins once, but for six lengths at Oaklawn Park. She will only make two other starts and not after that.

“The dam was fast and won the first for (coach, Steve) Asmussen. She looked like she could be anything but didn’t get the chance to reach that potential,” I said. “Then there’s Good Magics, we were so eager to get one last year but most of them were outbid.”

It all finally came together in the Keeneland sale.

“We were hoping the stallion would continue, so we were very lucky,” he said.

Good Magic did more than just “continue”. This year he is the winner of the Kentucky Derby magician ; Los Alamitos Derby and Sham Stakes (G3) Winner regeneration ; Iowa Derby Winner How did he do that? ; and runner-up Preakness Stakes (G1) Blazing Sevens .

“I’ve believed in Good Magic since watching him win the Breeders’ Cup for minors (G1),” Campion said. “In my opinion, he will always be one of the top young gentlemen in America.”
