Gonzaga Bulldogs are on the list of 7 men’s basketball teams that broke into the top 10 to lose on Saturday
For the first time in college basketball history, seven teams in the top 10 lost on the same day.
On Saturday, number 1 GonzagaNo. 2 ArizonaNo.3 Auburn4 Purdue5 KansasNo. 6 Kentucky and number 9 Texas Technology all lost, surpassing the previous record of six top 10 teams in an Associated Press poll losing in a single day. Saturday was also the first time that the top six teams in the top 25 poll had all lost on the same day, according to research by ESPN Stats & Information.
The last time six top 10 teams failed in a single day was on February 4, 2017. It happened five times overall.
“That’s life in late February and early March, especially on the road,” said Gonzaga coach Mark Few.
Saturday’s historic series of losses could have implications for the Sunday Picks.
