Golden Shaheen 2023 winner Sibelius will return to Smile


Jun Park and Delia Nash’s Sibelius is scheduled to return to competition in the $120,000 Smile Sprint on July 6 at Gulfstream Park. Sibelius, who won the 2023 Dubai Golden Shaheen (G1), is the most successful name on the 13-furlong field for Smile, a six-furlong sprint for 3-year-olds and up.

My 6 year old son Not this time who won by four lengths in the Mr. The Prospector Stakes (G3) at Gulfstream in the Championship, has been reinvigorated since finishing sixth at this year’s Dubai Golden Shaheen race on March 30.

“He’s going to run,” trainer Jerry O’Dwyer said at Gulfstream June 27. “He’s been training really well. We gave him a little bit of time in Kentucky to enjoy some fresh grass after Dubai. We cleaned him up and brought him back here to South Florida, and he’s been training regularly to prepare for Smile.”

Sibelius has had four successes since returning to training at Palm Meadows, Gulfstream Park’s satellite training facility in Palm Beach County.

Other prominent nominees for the race include Tom Durant Classic run who finished seventh at the Dubai Golden Shaheen, and Blanco Stable Carmel Chipswho finished sixth in the Godolphin Mile (G2). Trainer Jose D’Angelo trains both.
