Gojek e-hailing leaves Vietnam market after 6 years

After six years, the company provides ride-hailing and delivery services by motorbike. Gojek is withdrawing from the Vietnamese market. Gojek’s operations in Vietnam will end on September 16, according to a Asia Retail News report.

The decision was made by parent company GoTo after reviewing its business in Vietnam. Gojek initially entered Vietnam as GoViet in 2018 before being merged into the Gojek brand in 2020.

Gojek’s operations in Vietnam accounted for less than 1% of the company’s revenue in the second quarter of 2024. This comes after Gojek exited Thailand market in 2021 as the company is currently focusing on Singapore and its home market of Indonesia.

Vietnam’s ride-hailing market is estimated to be worth US$880 million (RM3.8 billion) by 2024, rising to US$2.16 billion (RM9.35 billion) by 2029, with industry leader Grab dominating the market. In Malaysia, motorbike-hailing was first introduced in 2019 but without consent awarded by the government.
