God of War: Ragnarok has officially received gold
God of War: Ragnarok is currently in the final stages of pre-release, according to an update from developer Sony Santa Monica Studio. In a tweet from its official account, Santa Monica Studio announced the milestone with some artwork and thanked its development partners. The game is scheduled to release on November 9, 2022 [Thanks, Destructoid!].
In game development parlance, “Going Gold” is a term for when a game is considered ready for publication. Prior to digital release, the game’s release build must be burned to master disc for shipping and copied before shipping to stores prior to the release date. The masters are usually (though not always) yellow.
We are very pleased to announce that #GodofWarRagnarok Gold has disappeared!
On behalf of SMS and all of our partners, we would like to thank our fans for supporting us throughout our development. We’re launching soon and can’t wait for you to play on November 9th! pic.twitter.com/vptHyKJ1JP

God of War: Ragnarok is the sequel of 2018 God of War, continues the story of Kratos and his son, Atreus. Book three years later previous game, Ragnarok sees the duo confronting the early stages of Ragnarok, the apocalypse as prophesied in Norse mythology. They will travel across the Nine Realms to find a way to stop it, as well as further investigate Atreus’ connections to the Norse gods. Of course, the gods aren’t too pleased with the pair, and will continue to let the father and son participate in the violent family drama that has a life in the Nordic population.
Sony aired a story trailer for the game at its State of Play broadcast in mid-September, revealing what will happen when the game lands.
The trailer showcases a visit to Tyr, the Norse god of war, as well as some of the new combat mechanics added to the sequel. Kratos will once again wield his Leviathan Ax, and also gain access to his old chain, the Blades of Chaos. New “specific moves” will be added to the game’s weapons, with different elemental attributes and use cases. Shield also has a new planking mechanic. The trailer also reveals some moments from God of War: Ragnarokincluding the battle between Kratos and Thor, the god of thunder.
God of War: Ragnarok released on PS4 and PS5 on November 9, 2022. The game was previously available on PS4 and PC.
