GM plans 50 new digital features, subscription service by 2026



Synthetic engine aims to boost its non-vehicle revenue by introducing dozens of new digital charging features by 2026, including one that allows cars to predict when it will need service, an executive top executives said on Thursday.

Steve Carlisle, president of GM North America, said at an investor conference.

Carlysle said GM’s OnStar unit, currently offering insurance beyond the driver’s concierge service, which generates about $32 a month per customer, and its enhanced Super Cruise driver-assistance feature further reinforces that.

New digital products, including vehicle registrations, will be supported by GM’s Ultifi software and connectivity platform. Ultifi will also enable over-the-air software updates and help drivers and passengers with tasks like online shopping.

Carlysle says some of the digital features are designed to take advantage of the larger screens that GM is installing on the GMC. Hummer EVs, Chevrolet Silverado EV, Cadillac Lyriq and another future tram.

“The larger screens on our electric vehicles will allow us to bring more data-driven software products to our customers,” he said.

He also said GM is looking at flexible pricing options for some of those digital features, including monthly, annual, and lifetime subscriptions.

Introducing more data-driven services and products is part of the CEO Mary Barra’s plan, announced last October, to double GM’s annual revenue to about $280 billion by 2030.
