GM launches US military electric concept based on Hummer EV

General Motors’ Subsidiaries, Defense GMunveiled an electric military concept car built on Hummer . tram at this year’s Modern Day Marine fair. eMCV, as GM Defense calls it, borrows a lot of words Pickup Hummer EVis now available to retail buyers and has been for the past few years, according to auto news.

As the foundation of the GM Defense eMCV is the 2023 Hummer EV Pickup Truck, the new electric military concept will have similar performance and range to the civilian model. The eMCV will be powered by two electric motors at the rear and one at the front, making a total of 1,000 horsepower and 11,500 lb-ft of torque. The concept features an electronically locked rear differential, as well as a ‘locked front differential’. The eMCV will have an estimated range of more than 300 miles per charge, and it is capable of adding an additional 100 miles of range in about 12 minutes via a DC fast charger. And the eMCV also has a built-in 12 kilowatt diesel generator that can actually charge the EV battery and power other devices.

Range and charging are provided by the GM Ultium battery pack consisting of a dual 24-module, 200 kWh battery pack. Encapsulation is important because changing their configuration will allow the US Army and other branches of the armed forces to equip eMCV for different uses. The problem was that American motor groups had to be full of similar electric vehicles that would carry six infantry members or their e.equipment, depending on their needs respective unit and forward operating facility (FOB).

GM Defense lists two EV models, one as an eMCV, while the other as an All-Electric Military Vehicle Variant (eISV), which is slightly different. The latter is built on the same platform as the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2, while the former is, again, built upon the Hummer EV. However, the eISV uses a different propulsion system than the eMCV and is designed to be ultra-light as opposed to Heavy Hummer EVs.

But the eMCV still has similar capabilities, such as “Silent Clock” and “Silent Drive,” which provide the EV with low thermal and acoustic cues. The concept also features performance shock absorbers from Fox, 37-inch tires, heavy-duty brakes, and improved geometry, such as larger approach and departure angles. GM Defense does not disclose the weight of the EV, which may be lighter or heavier than the civilian version due to different configurations of either machine. The eMCV also features a 46-inch gun ring and side swivel arm mount.
