A nine-year-old girl was shot in the chest in Liverpool.
Merseyside Police launched an investigation after officers arrived at a home on Kingsheath Avenue, Knotty Ash, at 10 p.m. on Monday following reports of an unidentified man opening fire on the property. inside the house, according to a statement from the force.
The nine-year-old girl suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and was taken to the hospital in critical condition, where she later died.
The force added that a man also suffered a gunshot wound to his body and a woman injured her hand when the incident happened inside the house, the force added.
Both were taken to the hospital for treatment of their injuries.
Assistant Director Constable Jenny Sims said: “It is a truly shocking incident where a young and innocent girl has been tragically shot and killed.
“We extend our condolences to her family and friends at this very difficult time.
“This crime is heinous and our community must come forward and let us know who is responsible.
“This cowardly individual doesn’t deserve to be on the streets and I would urge anyone who knows anything to tell us and let us know what they know so we can bring someone to account. behind bars where they belong.
“We are doing several investigations as a matter of urgency and will be requesting dash cams, CCTV or mobile phone footage from anyone who lives, works or has visited the Greater Bay Area. Kingsheath Road last night.”
