The world’s only 208 A Spyder was imported to the United States in the 1950s, after being displayed at the 1955 Turin Auto Show, by New York-based dealer Tony Pompeo on behalf of the Du Pont family. It floated around New England until a collector of exotic Italian cars like this one discovered it in 2007 and saw it as a sympathetic restoration, although the current owner has recently had the car repainted bare metal in its original color. The interior and trim remain as they were.

Here is the summary, according to RM Sotheby’s:

Penned by Giovanni Michelotti for Boano, Abarth hopes the design will appeal to the American market stylistically, but underneath, these cars are unmistakably Italian. They use an ultra-light chassis, a small but powerful engine, combined with precise and refined handling. Mechanically, much was carried over from the Fiat 1100, including the car’s suspension and the 1,089 cc four-cylinder engine. Even more performance is extracted from the Abarth’s tuning kit, which includes twin Weber carburetors and a custom exhaust, helping the engine reach 66 horsepower.

This one is for sale in Milan, Italy (with Greek license plates) for just €795,000, or about $852,000 at current exchange rates. That’s a pretty good deal for such a tiny machine, but can you really put a price on being the only person in the world to own one?
