Gentari switches to kWh-based EV charger pricing – from RM1.30/kWh for DC, 90 sen/kWh for AC

Gentari is one of the few companies that has stuck with per-minute pricing for at least some of its EV chargers. As of today, however, Petronas’ sustainable energy subsidiary has finally followed much of the industry in moving its entire network to per-kWh pricing.

It’s unclear why the transition took so long, as the company First kWh Charger at X Park Sunway Serene It is likely, however, that this is related to the fact that kWh charging requires an Electric Vehicle Charging System (EVCS) license issued by the Energy Commission (EC).

A quick look at the prices charged on Gentari Go App revealed that the network’s pricing structure remains similar to what was applied in April 2023with a few changes. Firstly, there is now a separate price for 11 and 22 kW AC chargers of RM1.05 per kWh, up from the previous 90 sen per kWh (this price still applies to 7 kW chargers).

Secondly, Gentari is no longer operating the 350kW DC fast charger at X Park Sunway Serene at its maximum rate – it is now capped at 175kW and costs the same RM1.50 per kWh as other DC chargers. As such, the pricing structure is now as follows:

  • 7kW AC – RM0.90/kWh
  • 11kW/22kW AC – RM1.05/kWh
  • DC up to 30kW – RM1.30/kWh
  • DC 50kW-180kW – RM1.50/kWh

However, Gentari still charges per minute at The Exchange TRX, where a 22 kW AC charger costs 25 sen per minute.
