In the eyes of many, Canelo Alvarez is considered the best boxer in the world and is almost an indomitable force in the ring. In four of his previous five games, Alvarez carefully dissected his opponents before the end of the show without resorting to a scorecard from the judges.

Yet despite worldwide recognition and countless titles spanning multiple weight classes, having shared the ring with him on two separate occasions, Gennadiy Golovkin believes he knows all the intricacies. small in Alvarez’s match.

“I know Canelo as a martial artist,” Golovkin said in an interview on Walking The Floor. “I have the key to unlock him, how to fight Canelo. I’m sure he did some research on me too, and he has some in his arsenal as well.”

Golovkin, 39 years old, competed with Alvarez in September 2017. After finishing 12 tough rounds, Golovkin raised his hands in triumph, believing he had just got the biggest victory of his career. me. Regardless of Golovkin’s initial thought process, however, he was furious when he discovered that their contest had been concluded to be a decisive draw.

A year later, the two exchanged again. Unlike their previous match, where Alvarez boxed and moved, the Mexican product stood firm and fought Golovkin toe-to-toe.

Alvarez’s change of approach ultimately resulted in a decisive majority victory, which Golovkin vehemently disagreed with.

Since their two-part series, Alvarez has gone on to win world titles in both the 168th and 175th pound. All the while, however, Golovkin has been quietly trying to lure his longtime rival back into the ring. Even though the pair haven’t fought in nearly 4 years, Golovkin could be on track for a third win over Alvarez.

Currently, Alvarez is mulling over a two-on-one deal offered to him by promoter Eddie Hearn. Under the agreement, Alvarez will first fight WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol. If Alvarez stripped him of his 175-pound title, he would drop back to 168 pounds to defend his undisputed throne against Golovkin.

However, all the parties involved are still preparing for their possible agreement. While Golovkin is putting most of his energy into the still-unannounced match against WBA middleweight champion Ryota Murata, the 39-year-old from Kazakhstan admits that Tuesday’s match against Alvarez is a certainty. interest him.

“We knew that after the second game he was not ready to offer a rematch. Basically he just went up and chased other opportunities. There is an interest in the war. It is a fascinating opportunity. When this happened is not clear. Only time will tell.”
