GE HealthCare appoints IT leader Taha Kass-Hout as new CTO



The newly formed GE HealthcareCare on Thursday announced that Dr. Taha Kass-Hout will be its first chief technology officer.

In her new role, Kass-Hout will work with engineering and technology teams in GE Healthcare’s four business units — Imaging, Ultrasound, Patient Care Solutions, and Pharmaceutical Diagnostics — to help with machine learning applications and innovate their clinical research and patient care tools.

Kass-Hout, who will report to GE Healthcare President & CEO Peter Arduini, will be tasked with developing a digital health framework emphasizing the company’s smart devices, in line with conditions, and leverage data and insights to enhance precision medicine and personal care companies’ capabilities.

He has long experience in the healthcare sector, in both the private and public sectors. He came to GE HealthcareCare from Amazon, where he served as chief medical officer and vice president of machine learning at AWS. Here, he helped build AI-focused initiatives like Amazon HealthLake, Amazon Comprehend Medical, and Amazon Omics.

Kass-Hout has also served two terms in the Obama Administration – as the FDA’s first director of health informatics, and as director of information science and informatics for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. US disease.

At GE HealthcareCare, he will lead clinical strategy and enterprise-wide innovation for several years, according to the company, focusing on new products that support the clinical care roadmap, prioritizing R&D investments, etc.

The Kass-Hout hiring comes as GE Healthcare announced last week that the subsidiary from GE is complete and that GE HealthcareCare will begin trading as a standalone company on the Nasdaq exchange.
