Gasoline and oil prices are at their lowest level in nearly a year
America just passed busiest travel day of the year. Fortunately for the drivers, they didn’t feel the pump pain they would have suffered just a few months earlier. The average price of a gallon of gasoline currently sitting at $3.55, according to AAA. That’s just the lowest price we’ve seen since February of this year.
The organization says this is actually the steepest weekly drop since August. The average price fell 11 cents in just one week. Above all, CNN reported that US oil prices have hit their lowest level in about a year. The price for a barrel of oil is hovering around $74. That’s down 35 percent from June alone. Protests in China over the Covid-19 shutdown and global recession are being blamed for the drop in prices.
Oh, and to help matters further, the Energy Information Administration shows the real gas demand fall last week from 8.74 million to 8.33 million barrels. At the same time, total domestic gasoline stocks increased by more than 3 million barrels to 211 million barrels. Add all of this together and you get a lower gas price. It’s great when that happens, isn’t it?
Now, we’re not perfect. The average price is still 16 cents higher than at the same time last year. Let’s wait a moment and if current factors are kept in place, we can consider gas prices to return to their previous levels. Or, who knows, maybe they’ll be even taller? It’s a fickle world we live in.
With that said, let’s take a look at average gas prices across the country.
