GasGas will join MotoGP in 2023, riding Pol Espargaro
GasGas, the iconic Spanish motorcycle brand, purchased by Pierer Mobility Group and KTMis to join MotoGP with Team Tech3.
From 2023, Tech3 will become the GasGas Factory Racing Team, with Pol Espargaro confirmed as one of their riders. The team will compete with factory-made KTM RC16s branded GasGas.
Although GasGas will compete under their own name, this does not mean that they will be considered a new manufacturer under MotoGP regulations. For the purposes of the rules, GasGas will be treated as KTM.
That means they won’t make concessions, have the same testing rules and engine similarities as KTM. They will also have no representation in MSMA, KTM will still represent Pierer Mobility Group brands.
KTM CMO Hubert Trunkenpolz said that reproducing the KTM as GasGas was a branding exercise.
The goal is to use MotoGP as a marketing platform to reach a young audience to promote their sports brand. Along with this, Trunkenpolz explained, there will soon be a line of street bikes from GasGas, though he did not give further details on this.
