Fujifilm X-H2 vs Canon EOS R5: Which is best for portrait photographers?

When Fujifilm announced the new X-H2, I immediately wanted to test it out with my current camera, the Canon R5. With a 40-megapixel sensor, much-improved autofocus, and other improvements, it theoretically hits all the marks for my type of work.

To be clear, I have found very little to complain about Canon R5. Excellent image quality, fast and accurate autofocus, ergonomics and build quality are top-notch. However, in my opinion, there are some downsides to the Canon system, mainly related to the limited number of lenses available in the RF mount as well as their high cost. Part of why I want to check Fuji X-H2 This is due to the large number of high quality native and third party lenses available at much lower prices than Canon glasses. I also expect that the X-H2 will show a marked improvement in the autofocus system compared to the X-T4. I argue that the higher resolution combined with Fujifilm’s excellent autofocus and inherently excellent image quality and film simulation could make the X-H2 an attractive alternative to the camera. my current Canon setup.

I was able to try out the X-H2 for about a week and my goal is to see how it compares to shooting with the R5 in my studio. In the video, I discuss autofocus, image quality, ergonomics, handling, and overall value. While I’m not usually a “pixel viewer”, I do zoom in quite closely on some samples and compare resolutions. I hope that you find my videos informative and entertaining. As always, please let me know what you think in the comments section below.
