Agent Pedro Lanz didn’t wait long to pick two racing prospects on July 10 during Fasig-Tipton’s July Selected Racehorse Sale for Saudi KAS Stables customers. The first is a pony of girvin , Power in numbers (Hip 470), for $400,000; second is one justification pony, Rebellion Stage , for $200,000; both 3 year old horses are from draft ELiTE.
“I am buying for Saudi Arabian clients and they are looking for horses to run the Classic distance,” explains Lanz. “This horse is 3 years old, light racers, good numbers and progress with each race. The horse is strong, and it’s made by Girvin, and they’re doing great.
“King Abdullah Son Stables are trying to get the best horses for the stock races there, so they love these sales.”
The Girvin pony is on sale with a helpful update to win a Cat Story Stake on June 25 for Klaravich Stables owner and trainer Chad Brown. With earnings rising to $146,500, the foal won his previous two attempts. Bred by Brereton Jones, the foal was traded for BSW/Crow for $200,000 last year at the July Sale.

The Dutrow family’s Team D Stable purchased Redifined as a Desire for $150,000 from Brookdale Sales at Keeneland’s September 2021 Annual Sale. The chubby man set a 2-2-1 record from six starts for coach Tony Dutrow. She booked three shares, including a second one last October in Matron Shares (G3T) at Aqueduct race track. Mawaka makes first auction transaction with $445,000 Catiche
Ohio businessman Scott Mawaka has been in racing for about 20 years, mostly through partnerships, but this week at Fasig-Tipton separated himself when buying a 3rd place winner catiche for $445,000.

“This is my first purchase. It was a good deal and I expected to spend more, so I was surprised we were able to get her for $445,000.” Mawaka, who chose Marette Farrell, who represents dirty blood, said. “I have a lot of hope for the opportunity. We haven’t chosen a trainer yet; we’ll get there. I’ve had horses in minority partnerships for a long time, and here it is. was my first introduction to selling, and here we go.”
ELiTE consigned Catiche on behalf of George Strawbridge Jr.’s Augustin Stable, which purchased her for $375,000 through Nicoma Bloodstock during the Fasig-Tipton Showcase Annual Sale in September 2020. Since then, this chubby girl has set a 2-5-1 record in 10 career starts and earned $163,629. From the late Arrogate’s first bout, she’s been a 3rd place winner for trainer Jonathan Thomas and runner up in Bourbonette Oaks at Turfway Park over 1/16 miles away last year. “She has a great lineage and still has some potential on the track,” said Mawaka. “I think we’re going to get out of the excitement of selling and re-collecting and determining what it looks like. At this point we could see her back on the track shortly and definitely in the breeding barn in the future.”
The filth is apart from the 3rd grade winner Pulpit Sacristy, who is the half-sister to the Japanese 1st grade winner Mozu Superflare.
Mawaka is the CEO of a family-owned company called Fleet Response, which specializes in claims processing, accident management, and safe driving training for companies with fleets of trucks and car.
