Friends with the same P-plate share Ford Falcon, receive huge speeding fines

New South Wales road patrol officers have issued more than $4000 in fines after a Ford Falcon was caught speeding twice in just 48 hours… by two different drivers.

At approximately 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 3, Deniliquin Highway Patrol Police spotted a Ford Falcon allegedly travelling at 80mph in a posted 62mph speed limit on the Cobb Freeway, following previous complaints from other road users.

After being stopped by police, the 21-year-old male driver produced a P1 Provisional Licence (red P plate), which requires the holder to adhere to a maximum speed limit of 90km/h – meaning he was found to be driving 38km/h over the limit.

He was promptly issued with an infringement notice for exceeding the speed limit by 30km/h (but not exceeding 45km/h), ordered to pay a $1097 fine and five demerit points, resulting in an immediate three-month suspension of his driver’s licence.

Two days later, on Friday, July 5 at 6:30 a.m., that Ford Falcon was reportedly spotted traveling at 90 mph on the Cobb Freeway.

This time, the driver was the owner of the car, another 21-year-old man with a red P license plate.

Like his friend, he was issued with an infringement notice, this time with a $2959 fine and six points for exceeding the 90km/h speed limit on his licence by more than 45km/h.

In addition to having his driver’s license suspended for six months, the Falcon’s license plates were also confiscated for three months.

The Ford owner was lucky his Falcon wasn’t impounded by New South Wales Police, a law enforcement agency that has jurisdiction if a vehicle owner is found to have committed serious driving offences – including speeding by more than 45km/h.
