Frank Warren updates on Fury-AJ . talks

After news of Queen Elizabeth II’s death, the hall of fame promoter, frontman for a potential all-British heavyweight clash halted discussions.

The whirlwind of news in boxing’s heavyweight division last week was curtailed by the announcement of the Queen’s death, ending a historic 70-year reign. All boxing matches were postponed over the weekend out of respect for the Royal Family.

National mourning across the UK has also had repercussions elsewhere in the sport. Fans have been enjoying the back and forth between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua, as the pair and their teams attempt to put together a super fight for Fury’s WBC belt.

We last heard it on Thursday, September 8, when ‘King of Gypsy’ issues ultimatum to ‘AJ’: choose one of the provided dates or the battle end date.

Frank Warren, who was at the front and center of the very public negotiations, told TalkSPORT Fight Night that negotiations have been adjourned.

“We have put it all on hold for the moment. Obviously it’s not appropriate. That is how we feel.”

“We’ve paused it and will resume it in about the next week or so.”

“From our perspective, we don’t feel it’s appropriate to respect what happened.”

It’s not clear how the pause in dialogue between Fury and Joshua’s team might affect the fight, which already has a tight schedule in terms of training and promotion – however this update from Warren offers hope. that it can still be done.
