Former army sergeant fights crocodile to save his rescue dog

When a dog is in danger, we must think fast. Most dog parents will do anything to save their best friend, even if it means putting themselves in danger. That’s exactly what Trent Tweddale did for his rescue dog, Loki.

Tweddale and Loki just hang out at the Wesley Chapel, Florida. But when Loki gets too close to the water, he comes face-to-face with a giant crocodile. Tweddale didn’t have any time to process the situation. All he can do is protect his puppy.

Fight with a crocodile

While they were walking, Loki stopped near the water. The rain had caused the river to rise higher than usual, so the dog put his front paws in. Then, out of nowhere, a 13-foot-long dog lunged forward and grabbed the 6-year-old by the leg. Without hesitation, Tweddale, a former army sergeant, rushed over Save your dog from wild animals.

“I grabbed the dog by the neck trying to pull it back, and I ended up getting into a tug of war with this hound, and the bitch just wouldn’t let go,” Tweddale said. “So I let go of the collar, and I was knee-deep in the water and started banging hard on the hound’s head until he let go.”

For most people, fighting a gator would be terrifying. But for Tweddale, he just did what he had to do. Fortunately, Tweddale walked away with only a few minor scratches, but poor Loki was out of danger.

The front leg that the crocodile caught was almost severed. If the fight had continued, the dog may have lost a leg. Thankfully, Tweddale was able to get Loki to the vet in time. He had to have emergency surgery to save his leg.

Loki’s Recovery

Loki has a long way to go to recover, but it looks like he’ll be fine. Veterinarians had to put plates and screws into his leg to help reconstruct it. The goal is that after he fully recovers from surgery, he will be able to use his feet again.

Tweddale has been by Loki’s side at every step of his healing process. However, he also wants justice for his dog. Since the incident, he has returned to the scene to look for the alligator that attacked his dog. Florida Fish and Wildlife even agreed to set traps to catch the gator. Tweddale said he used a rooster as bait but he has yet to have any luck.

Loki is lucky to have a brave father to protect him. After all, dogs are an important part of the family, so most dog parents would probably do the same to save their dog. Hopefully, Loki will recover quickly!
