Ford teases new Mustang GT4 race car ahead of June 28 launch date

Ford released an upcoming teaser image Mustang GT4 racing car, partially showing how the headlights and front bumper are handled.

The brand says it will make its special Mustang race debut on June 28 at the 24 Hours of Spa endurance race – held at the iconic Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium.

Joining the Mustang GT4 at Spa will be Ford Performance global motorsport director, Mark Rushbrook, along with SRO President, Stephane Ratel.

For the upcoming race car, Ford applied a series of black accents under the headlights, air intakes and diffuser to contrast the orange bodywork and colored rectangular texture artwork. red on all paint colors.

Ford has confirmed the GT4 will be based on the seventh generation Mustang Dark Horsenaturally aspirated Coyote V8 5.0 liter engine adjusted to provide 373kW — even 500 horses — and 567Nm to the rear wheel.

Ford Performance has co-developed the Mustang GT4 with Multimatic Motorsports, which will build the vehicle for customers around the globe.

According to the preview image, Ford is expected to make some changes to the suspension and aerodynamics to get the Mustang Dark Horse ready for GT4 sports car racing.

The previous Mustang GT4 was popular with Blue Oval’s performance division, competing for worldwide championships in the hands of professional racers and private customers.

The track-honed Mustang will go head-to-head with the likes of BMW, Mercedes-AMG, McLaren, Porsche and Audi in the FFSA GT4 category.

The new Mustang GT4 will debut during the 2023 season and will be available for global GT4 classes in the IMSA, SRO and FIA GT lines.

Ford recently launched Mustang GT3features a bespoke “short-arm” suspension under the shell, along with an aggressive aerodynamics package that can be tailored to wherever in the world a team is racing.

The GT3 also debuted with the Ford Performance logo for the first time.
